System Administrator

Job Responsibilities:
Support of business processing requirements.
Performs system software installations, system software maintenance and product upgrades. Evaluate and integrate new operating system versions, drivers and hardware.
Tests software updates and patches.
Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi-tiered environments.
Conducts system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system software performance, availability and reliability.
Perform Incident resolution, Problem Determination and Root Cause Analysis in accordance with Service Level Agreements.
Designs, develops, recommends and implements new or revised system software, utilities and automated processes as necessary.
Provides in-depth diagnosis for operating systems software/hardware failures and develops solutions.
Ensures server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Prescribes system backup / disaster recovery procedures and directs recovery operations in the event of destruction of all or part of the operating system or other system components.
Implements appropriate levels of system security. Provides technical expertise for system Transitions, Migrations and Consolidations.
Provides technical assistance to IT support staff, including but not limited to, DBAs, Network Engineers, Application Developers, Middleware Engineers, other System Administrators, Project Managers, Change Managers and Business Development staff.
Typically, the Specialist level is a key technical resource in the design, architecture and deployment of new systems to keep the UNIX server environment stable and interruptions to a minimum in standalone and multi-tiered environments.
Participates in the planning phase for system requirements on various projects for deployment of business functions on UNIX servers.
Owns tasks for implementation of new hardware, operating systems and other required software on the systems.
The Specialist is expected to conduct, with limited support and direction, system analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies and work with other professional technical staff in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development.
Provides advice, training, and 24x7 technical support to customers, users and programmers.
Required Skills:
Proficient in at least two UNIX based related areas in addition to Specialist Core proficiencies.
Must demonstrate proficiency at the UNIX command line involving a variety of utilities.
Must be recognized as an effective Shell Programmer. Proficient in UNIX security on associates primary platform.
Requires high proficiency in two or more lines of the following UNIX areas. Operating Systems: (AIX, HPUX, Solaris, Linux, Tandem NonStop, OpenVMS).
Tuning: (System/Network/Database/Application). Backups: (Netbackup, Omniback, Custom).
High Availability: (HACMP, VCS, Sun Cluster Server, Service Guard, Oracle/RAC). SAN: (EMC, Clarion). Databases: (Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MySQL). Networking: (DNS, NIS, NFS, Cisco, BigIP).
Programming: (C/C++, Perl/CGI, HTML, Java/J2EE, UML).
Monitoring: (BMC, Tivoli, CA, Automation). Proficiency in supporting system/middleware software on various OS/hardware platforms. Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with customers / vendors.
Acts as a technical resource / mentor for UNIX Analysts and Technicians.
Proficient in both written and verbal communications.
Good project management skills. Comprehensive troubleshooting skills. Specialist must have all of the technical skills required for an Analyst. Core proficiencies (all must apply).
Possess high level knowledge of the UNIX OS internals.
Experience with TSM Administrator
Experience with TSM System Backups
Experience with TSM Infrastructure Maintenance
Experience with Introduction of New Technologies to improve exisiting infrastructure TSM Reporting and problem resolution Organization Distribution.
